Objectives and Purpose

Morris Center for World Missions

At Luther Rice College & Seminary we realize that the God-given task of global mission has never been more necessary or challenging than now, as we face the twenty-first century.

Luther Rice equips students to be effective in their efforts to the point that each student, regardless of degree program, is exposed to God’s heartbeat for the world.  For each trip sponsored by Luther Rice, class credit is available, offering students the chance to get practical, multicultural missions experience in the context of their education.

We are not a sit-on-the-sidelines kind of school.  Our mission efforts are focused toward sharing the Gospel with every man, woman and child on the planet – all for the glory of God!

"And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."

Matthew 28:18-20

The Morris Center for World Missions (MCWM) is the hub of Luther Rice’s Great Commission efforts, helping develop students and faculty members who are Great Commission servants of their local churches.  The MCWM serves the Luther Rice community in four major areas: academics, research, mobilization, and convention relationships.

Vision

Our Mission is to enhance the students of Luther Rice’s understanding of the biblical basis for missions, increase their awareness of God's work among all peoples, and assist them in identifying and embracing their role in His mission.

Scriptural Foundations for Missions

Genesis 12:2-3 ~ God's mission is a blessing for all peoples

Psalm 67:5 ~ God's aim is for all peoples to praise him.

Acts 1:8 ~ The Holy Spirit empowers us to be witnesses in our Jerusalem's, Judea's, Samaria's, and the remotest parts of the earth.

Matthew 28:18-20 ~ Jesus commands us to go and disciple all nations by baptizing them and teaching them to obey all that he commands.

Revelation 7:9 ~ God's end-vision is every nation, tribe, people, and tongue worshiping the Messiah, the Christ.

Preparing Students

Students are prepared to be effective communicators of God’s saving grace in our increasingly globalized society.  In its goal of extending God’s kingdom, the Missions and Evangelism Department develops leaders to share God’s love with unreached peoples both in urban and rural areas.

World Mission Objectives

In addition to the mission statement, general objectives, and basic requirements of the institution, the objectives of the Missions and Evangelism department are to equip students in knowledge and skills necessary to do the following:

  1. Communicate the Good News of Jesus Christ effectively and appropriately in varying situations.
  2. Penetrate and appreciate customs, cultures different from the students own, and participate changes and adjustments necessary to enter and minister in a different culture.
  3. Apply basic principles and practices of missionary assignments in respect to relationships with associates, with nationals, with mission administration, and the the national church.
  4. Articulate current missiological concepts and strategies and to apply theological, historical, and anthropological principals in planning for evangelism, nurturing of believers and training leaders in global contexts.
