At thirteen years of age, David Mapes came to know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. His trust in Christ came four years after the Lord began convicting him at the age of nine. The call to full-time ministry did not come until the end of his Masters of Science at Oklahoma State University. Three years later Mapes surrendered to the ministry, marking the beginning of his sixteen years of pastoral ministry (1985-2001). In 1991, the Lord directed his path toward full-time seminary teaching.

For the next ten years, the appropriate degrees (M.Div; Ph.D.) were earned to prepare Mapes for his new phase of ministry. While working on the Ph.D degree, he taught General Biology and Human Anatomy and Physiology for college pre-nursing students as one of the means of providing a living for his family. Since graduating with his Ph.D in 2001, he has had the joy of teaching theology at Luther Rice Seminary. His wife’s name is Joyce and they have three grown children: David, Julie, and Thomas.
