Privacy Policy
Luther Rice College & Seminary takes the privacy of your personal information seriously. This policy covers our website, prospective students and applicants, current and former students, and donors. It explains what we collect, how we use it, when we share it, and how to reach us about it.
Our commitment
Luther Rice does not sell your personal information, and we do not share your records or contact details with anyone for their marketing.
What we collect
- Information you give us. This includes what you provide when you request information, apply or reactivate, request a transcript or other document, make a payment or donation, or contact us.
- Your student records. These are the records created while you study with us, such as your courses, grades and student account.
- Information about website visits. This is described under Our website below.
How we use it
We use your information to answer your questions, consider your application, enroll you, and deliver your courses. We also use it to keep your academic and financial records, and to process payments, donations and financial aid. We may tell you about programs, events and admission. You can stop those promotional messages at any time.
When we share it
We share information only when the law requires it, or when a service you rely on depends on it. For example:
- Sending your transcript to a school or employer when you order one
- Processing your federal financial aid with the U.S. Department of Education
- Confirming your enrollment or degree through the National Student Clearinghouse, for lenders and employers
- Reports the law requires, such as to the Department of Education and our accreditors
- Collecting an unpaid balance on a student account
- Trusted service providers who run systems on our behalf, such as payment processing, MyCampus and online classes
Apart from these, we discuss a student’s records with another person, including a parent or spouse, only with the student’s permission. The only exceptions are the limited cases that federal student-privacy law (FERPA) allows, and the Academic Catalog describes them. Some basic details, such as a student’s name, program and degree, are treated as directory information. The Academic Catalog explains what that includes and how to ask that yours be kept private.
Our website
Our website uses cookies and similar tools from Google and Meta (Facebook). They measure how the site is used, and they show Luther Rice advertisements to people who have visited it. These tools record things like the pages viewed and the type of device used. They do not receive student records. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can manage the ads you see in your Google and Meta account settings.
Sending us documents
Please do not email documents that contain sensitive personal information, such as your Social Security number or bank details. Students can send them securely through Secure File Transfer in the MyCampus student portal.
Keeping it secure
Luther Rice maintains an information security program with safeguards to protect personal information. It includes the safeguards the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) requires of colleges that administer federal student aid. Only staff who need records for their work can see them. Online card payments are encrypted and processed to the payment card industry’s security standard (PCI DSS).
How long we keep it
Academic records, including transcripts, are kept permanently so that we can confirm a student’s studies and degree for as long as they need us to. Financial and other records are kept for the periods the law requires. Information from people who inquire or apply but do not enroll is kept according to our records retention schedule.
Requests and questions
Current and former students can make a request online. You’ll sign in to MyCampus with your Luther Rice account. You can use it to get a copy of your records, correct something, let a named person see your records or withdraw that permission, or stop promotional messages.
Everyone else, including prospective students, applicants, donors and visitors, can write to privacy@lutherrice.edu. You can write, for example, to stop hearing from us or to ask about the information we hold about you.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we will update the date at the bottom of this page.
