Thomas Mapes grew up in a Christian home and came to know Christ personally in the eighth grade.  He has taught English in a variety of formats and at a variety of academic levels.  Other than English pedagogy, Mapes’ interests include the relationship between science and religion, particularly as expressed in literature.  This interest sparked the subject of his dissertation, an investigation of the import of Victorian science in the religious poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins.  Mapes is married to Lisa, and is the proud papa of Carrie and two other “purr-sons,” Mew and Ellie.  He joined the Luther Rice faculty in January of 2013.
